Where to get the form for free address change

If you want to initiate the free address change process, you may get the form from the United States postal service or you can get it online or through the mail. All these methods will not cost you anything, but you have to submit the form to the local office.  You can be charged if you are requesting the address change online.

The local post office

You should visit the local office and then ask if you are able to get PS form 3575, the official mail forwarding Change of Address Order. You can get such from behind a counter but others can get them in the lobby or can place them in the postal form supplies.  The form can also be found online on the website of the U.S Postal Service.

By Mail

You can call the USPS customer care so that they can send the form where you are

Printing of the form

When you visit the official change of address website, you will have to click at Continue Button on the bottom page. Here you should provide the details you want about the address change such as the forwarding start date with the new mailing address.  After finishing, you can be taken to identity verification page. You can then click on mail and print button in order to print the copy to the form that you had just finished.   With the method, it means that you do not change the address online but you are just printing the form out and you can submit it to USPS office.

Submission of the form

You should hand deliver the completed form at the post office, where the old address was based or you may also mail it or give it to a mailman. The other option is changing the address online.  With this, you will be required to pay only 1.05 dollar used like a verification fee but all other methods do not cost anything.

Processing with a delivery period

USPS will not deliver the mail to the old address from the date you requested the forwarding to start. The new address starts to get the mail in 7 up to 10 days from that date. The post office and the priority emails get forwarded in 12 months.

If you want to change or to edit the request of the address change, then you should enter in the change of address option and ZIP code of the new address and then use the confirmation code that you got from the post. After entering these details, you have to submit the information and you will be given an area where you can change the information or cancel as you need.

If you did not get the confirmation code or you lost it, then you should visit the post office or call to let them know the changes you need to make.   You cannot make more than two changes in just one day. After doing two changes, you get the error message and you can try once again in 2 days.
