According to the Gospel of John, Nicodemus was the member of the Jerusalem Sanhedrin who became a loyal disciple of Jesus of Nazareth, believing him to be the Messiah and the true King of Israel. In the Gospel of John he is recorded as conversing at length with Jesus, protesting at the decision of the Sanhedrin to
brand him as a false Messiah and even assisting Joseph of Arimathea in the removal of the body of Jesus from the cross and its burial in the tomb.
